Biography:
Conrado Torres was born in Humacao, Puerto Rico on September 2, 1926 as the youngest of eleven children. He left his beloved island as a young man to seek a better life for himself and his bride-to-be, Victoria Surillo. He worked initially as a short order cook, before then working as a cook at a renowned hotel restaurant in Manhattan. He married his sweetheart Victoria on February 6, 1949 and three days later they moved permanently to New York City. They had six children of their own, and were long-term foster parents of four children, two of whom they adopted. Conrado was known by family, friends, and acquaintances first and foremost for his serenity, cheerfulness and generosity. He never tired of giving a helping hand wherever he was needed. He patiently listened to stories of ordeals people were experiencing, and offered advice, and a helping hand wherever he could. His deep spirituality founded upon his Catholic faith formed the basis of his love through deeds for others. Conrado was a long time parishioner of St. Ann`s Church where he served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years. He will be deeply missed.
